  11/17/06: Casino Royale (2006)

Thanks to Munich, we were already on record as knowing that Daniel Craig would be a better Bond. His debut in the franchise may be slightly overrated, but Craig’s performance isn’t. He’s even still killing all the right people.

The biggest problem with Casino Royale is the most repulsive 9/11 reference since this year’s remake of The Omen. The line’s likely a contribution from good Leftist screenwriter Paul Haggis. Get past that, though, and you can feel okay about buying your ticket at the box-office. There’s entertainment value, but also these politically relevant points:

    •  Disappointing theme still sung by same rock star who forced the remaining members of Rage Against The Machine to give up their moronic politics if they wanted to be his backing band.

    •  Traitor to a democracy gets murdered instead of getting a book deal.

    •  Taxpayers’ financing of Aston Martin not taken for granted.

    •  Bond only has sex with one woman throughout entire film.

    •  Bond discovers solid political motivation to have sex with more than one woman by end of film.

    •  Realistic main villain is raising money for terrorists (although international settings do not include Minneapolis).

    •  Source novel’s pivotal card game changed from baccarat to poker in blatant bid to appeal to female conservatives.

Make it your own: Now playing to relieved Bond fans who never thought the franchise would recover from Die Another Day.
