2/21/07: Hobo With A Shotgun (2007)The problem with Leftists running Hollywood is that they’ve made everything direly predictable—as summed up in
our insightful review of the 2005 sci-fi flick
Doom. That’s the kind of crap that’s truly inspired the YouTube generation or the Army of DeMilles or whatever you care to call it.
Hobo With A Shotgun is a fine example of regular folks making the kind of movie that Hollywood just couldn’t sanction. Even better, it’s not a real film. This trashy epic only exists as a trailer—found
here on YouTube, of course—created as part of some kind of competition for the upcoming release of
Grindhouse.
We’re a little vague on
the contest details, but we’re looking forward to this double feature from directors Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez. They’ve each made a genre film that’ll be shown between assorted Coming Attractions from various name directors. One group of amateur filmmakers will be chosen to add their own fake trailer to the mix.
Hobo With A Shotgun is one of the most popular contenders. You’d think that a major studio would be thrilled to make a movie about a homeless person who suddenly finds self-worth. In fact, we’ll concede that last year’s
The Pursuit of Happyness was inspiring in a conservative sense. The film made money, too.
You’d still wait a long time before
Hobo With A Shotgun got the green light from Columbia Pictures. Personally, we’d rather see a homeless guy who discovers a sense of self-worth from investing his meager funds into his Second Amendment rights. This magnificent trailer suggests that our heroic bum finds his place in society while ridding the world of pedophiles, crazed criminals, and corrupt cops.
We couldn’t put enough spare change in this hobo’s cup. We could say the same about Will Smith’s character in
The Pursuit of Happyness, but that guy was already working towards becoming a millionaire. Our hobo with a shotgun is working towards being the only kind of homeless person that Barbara Boxer would throw into jail.
Make it your own: God willing,
Hobo With A Shotgun will make it into
Grindhouse and get enough funding to become a film that we can someday own. And if God lets us down again, then let’s hope that
Hobo loses to the perfect
giallo tribute of
The Woman With Eyes of Glass.
