7/13/07: RightWingTrashMan: Dave Mustaine
We’d like to blame an exhausting heat wave for us farming out today’s entry, but the hellish forecast turned out to be kind of pleasant. It helped that Al Gore had just come through town. Instead, we’re recommending
this fine write-up on Dave Mustaine because we’re too lazy to write anything original, and we can’t find either of the two articles we wrote about the guy back in the ’90s.
The staff of
The American Spectator is pleasantly surprised, but the frontman for Megadeth has long been a proud conservative. MTV used to trot him out way back when they still pretended that Rock the Vote was a bipartisan organization. The linked article proves that Mustaine remains fearlessly outspoken.
Our favorite Mustaine quote, however, comes from one of our own interviews. Kurt Cobain had been dead for a few months, and Mustaine was goofing on the idiot fans and their rationalizing cult of self-pity. “Kurt said that his stomach hurt a lot,” recalled Mustaine. “Yeah, my stomach used to hurt a lot, too—
when I was a heroin addict.”
Make him your own: Mustaine’s currently flying his right-wing colors with the new
United Abominations—which is pretty great, but don’t forget 1999’s underheard (and extremely catchy)
Risk.
