Calling All Bozos

9/23/08Deadlines loom, so we’re skipping today’s entry—except to plug a film that we can’t quite officially endorse.
Traitor is still in theaters, and it’s kind of okay. Don Cheadle gives a fine performance as a Muslim terrorist (or
is he?). It’s also nice to see Guy Pearce’s good Christian FBI agent get treated like a real character. We just didn’t bother writing up a proper review because the film isn’t that great—until you get to the funniest ending of any movie this year.
Once the end credits start rolling, you realize that the Steve Martin credited with the film’s story is actually the popular comedian. (At first, we thought we'd misread the name of mystery novelist Steve Martini.)
Traitor certainly ends with a bigger laff than any comedy that Martin has made in the past two decades. Maybe the movie’s already playing at a second-run theater near you. At the very least, be sure to check out
Traitor as a DVD rental. There’s good reason that certain critics hate the film—but it’s not nearly as bad as
Next, which was the last movie to get us this ambivalent.
