First off, I wrote the song after an afternoon of drinking wine and smoking cigs with Al Hansen. It was my attempt at topical political satire and I guess it succeeded in some small way. We still perform 'Do The Uganda'. Too bad we didn't get included in 'Last King', would have been a nice paycheck!
BTW, we had no problems playing in San Francisco. We played there many, many times from 1977 on to 2002.
As far as being tarred as racsist, I wasn't aware of any such labels until many years later, but apparently, bringing the Maddog in as drummer put an end to it.

Brilliant post, absolutly dead on. If the right wing media were to do its homework it would realize that this story is a goldmine: lefties out of control at one of the countries' most prestigious schools and Horace Mann's valiant attempts to deal with these loonies.

Good overview, but there is no "inherent racism' in Darwinism. It's just a scientific theory that explains adaptation and speciation, and offers no room for such value judgements, in spite of what some overly-zealous folks might insist. If anything, Darwinian biology has helped disprove "scientific" racism, by demonstrating that there are no distinctions between the human races beyond superficial appearences.

"Ms 45" sounds good.
In the late 70's and early 80's Hollywood would release a handful of productions each year that conservative intellectuals could appreciate. Most of them were deliciously trashy. I miss those days.
I remember a similar film from this time called "Don't Go in the House". It even had a disco scene.
These were drive-in films; consequently appealing to automobile owners; subsequently appealing to conservative intellectuals.

It's revealing that as far as I can tell the article doesn't directly quote a single student. It references statements second hand, and things that were written, but I don't think the author actually spoke with any of the kids.

There's a term for that in the profession: we call it bad journalism.
